Not long ago, many leopards were captured from the wild of their lands. Each one was put in a crate on a ship and sent off to the zoo. The ride was long and treacherous, without much food and water. Soon, the wild leopards reached the United States. They were driven in a fairly large truck to a Florida Zoo.
The leopards spent many long, boring years in the zoo. They were fed already dead prey each day, but the leopards remained wild. They wanted to hunt, roam free. But, every day, less people came through the zoo's gates. In less than a year, no one came in at all, for the sign on the gate read:
OUT OF BUSINESS
Again, the leopards were shipped to a different zoo in California. The San Diego Zoo. This zoo did not go out of business, but the people grew tired of the leopards. The zoo shipped them off to Japan, where they hoped the leopards could find a home in another zoo.
On the way, a terrible storm appeared. Waves crashed against the ship's sides, and it rocked back and forth with great force. The ship was thrown off course, and headed more southwest than west. Along the way, the ship wrecked on a coral reef. The leopards were in boxes, and the broke at the impact as the boxes fell off the ship. The men died, but most healthy leopards survived. They swam to an island, not far away. Reaching its welcoming sands, they named it Komakai - meaning small.
The leopards spread out to the different islands in the archipelago. The islands were placed unusually close together, making most swims relatively easy. These islands were given the name "Mystic Islands" for their mystical features. No one has yet forgotten their long journey that occurred not long ago.
