The roar of the waterfall filled Sierra's ears, blocking out everything, even the song of birds. The tawny leopard lay on a sun-warmed boulder a few bounds away from a river that a nearby waterfall flowed into. She could see it, white froth gathering at the bottom, the water seemed to fall slowly...
Sierra lay on her side, one paw outstreched, the other curled up close. Her great triangular face rested half on her front leg, half on the sun-baked earth. Her tail curled slightly into a hook at the end.
Everything was still about her, everything motionless... Until an ear flicked to get a gnat away. Sierra's eyes had been shut tight, and they now opened, sunlight flooding into her life so quickly, she had to blink several times before recovering. She lifted her head, then lay it back down, watching the water flow over the pebbles on the shore.

The sound of the flowing water reached her ears. She pricked them forward to catch the sound even more. She blinked her blue eyes and smiled, then padded her way toward the falls. She came slowly down the slope that lead to the clear water and the river. She slowly reached down and lapped up the clear liquid. She sighed deeply as the fresh water entered her stomach. She had gone two suns with out that stuff. She rose up and looked around her. She blinked a few times and then saw something move.
She turned her head and saw a spotted thing lying near the river, on the other side. She titled her head side ways as she looked at the small thing. She raised her nose into the air and sniffed. 'A leopard!' She thought to herself. She looked around to make sure the larger leopards weren't around. She could get killed for being on this island, but it seemed to draw her, like the humans to the waves. She saw the cub move again and then wake up. She tired to hide herself by getting lower, but that was impossable. She was a tiger!
The female moved toward the edge of the river. Her large paws stopped in front of the water, sometimes reaching up to lap at them, but she didn't notice. She had her head tilted again and then she spoke. "Hey you!" She called over to the cub.

The young leopard let out a startled cry as she heard the voice. She tumbled off the rock, landing with a thud not far from the river. She scrambled to her feet, shaking herself off. "What?" she asked, lifting her head. She was startled to see a tiger, and not just any tiger, a white one! Never in her life had she seen a tiger of that coloring.
Her tail was held high with curiosity, still curled into a hook at the end. Her green-blue eyes were wide and shining. But still, she was a bit nervous. Maybe this tiger was planning to capture her, and keep her as a slave, or planning to kill her and eat her insides...
Once again letting her imagination get the better of her, Sierra began thinking, almost forgetting about the tiger altogether.

The female watched the cub get up, and then fall. She winced in pain for the cub, but it seemed to be alright. The tiger shook her head and then watched the cub for a view moments, then it seemed as if the cub was lost in it's own thoughts. As Whisper watched the cub she could tell the gender of the cub by the way she held herself.
The tiger stepped across the river, making sure her paws didn't touch the water as she walked on the rocks. She jumped the last few rocks and landed on the other side of the river, her paws dry, but the tip of her tail wet. She looked back at it and slashed it around, like it was shaking. She turned and looked at the cub again. She dipped her head down, to show her that she was now on her level. 'I'm Whipsers In the Dark, or Whisper. What is your name?" She asked the cub, her words were calm and quite. She knew a full grown tiger's voice could boom inside a young one's head. She had it happen to her when she was little.

Sierra snapped out of her thoughts, and shook her head. What a long name. she said to herself.
"I'm Sieeerrra." she said, drawing out the 'e' and 'r'. Suddenly, a large fish leaped out of the water, spraying Sierra with shining drops of fresh water. She growled, her voice still a bit high. Lashing her tail in annoyance, she padded over to the water and began to lap at it thirstily.
The ice-cold liquid made her teeth tingle, but she continued to drink it. After drinking her fill, she turned around, and was about to head back to Whispers In the Dark, when suddenly she slipped on a large, smooth and wet rock. She collapsed inot the water, splashing it every where. She instantly let out a cry, leaping to her feet. Water flattened her stopped fur to her spine as she growled at it. "Stupid rock." she muttered.

The female couldn't help it if her mother wanted to name her something long. Her mother's name had been long, and so had her father's. So why wouldn't her name be? The female didn't hear the cubs words, but the words were true. She almost jumped out to reach for the cub, but then she knew better, and once the cub was up and she saw that it was fine, she sat back down. She licked a large paw and brought it over her right ear, making it wet.
Whisper looked at the cub again and asked "Where are your parents?" Her light blue eyes looked at the leopard cub and sighed. Her own parents were dead, but the female that raised her had just had another litter of kits, but she didn't want to stay and watch them grow. No, Whisper needed to get off the tiger island and come to make a name for herself. For her father.
