The triumphant cries of birds flew the air, accompanied by the soft sound of the babbling river. The mist draped the island, along with the morning dew and the aftermath of a very soft and quick rain shower. Colorful avians roosted high above the ground, some awakening just now, others still asleep. The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon, washing the rainforest in much-awaited light. The coolness of it all was a pleasant break away from the heat of day, the nocturnal beasts staying up during this hour until noon, when it was to get very hot. Around that time, the forest was usually quieter. Sleeping, perhaps.
Just starting to wake up was a larger beast, her kind not meant to be on the islands. Nevertheless, they fit in quite well and were finally bringing down the mass overpopulation of prey. Along with the other feline group, the tigers were not welcome on the island as far as the prey was concerned. Big, with no enemies whatsoever other than each other.
Among this group was a lone White Bengal Tiger, her pelt a snowy white below brilliant stripes of ebony black. Maw open out from her dream, she slumbered lazily in the trees, her paws drooping off the branch that she was perched on. Her back legs were safely placed in a crevice in the trunk of the mighty, unclassified tree. Camouflaged by the many large leaves, the white cat slept safely. To any other felines nearby, however, her ivory color was a dead giveaway.
Her dream caused her to kick out in a panicked attempt to escape an unknown being...
Aisuhina stood on the mossy flooring of the forest, the fur on her back bristled in protest at the humans that were only a few feet away. Her twin brother, smaller in comparison yet no less intimidating, narrowed his eyes by her side. His nose crinkled at the putrid smell of the men, with their gun powder and tranquilizing darts. The white Tiger and the regular orange Bengal stared at their fate, watching as the men approached where they were hiding.
He reached into their bushes, and Kusemono sank his teeth into the rough 'paw' of the human. The two-legger screamed in surprise and stepped away, blood seeping from the bite marks. Others flocked to help him, but they did not take the two young tigers without a fight.
"I don't think I can take this much longer," Kusemono moaned, and suddenly a man stabbed him in the side with one of their darts. He let out a whimpering cry and fought to stay awake, while Aisuhina let out an infuriated snarl.
"You're not taking us!" She screeched, her claw connecting with one of the men. She didn't watch him as he yelled and backed off, while his buddy came up and stabbed the dart at her thigh. Kusemono had already nodded off, his body limp and unmoving. "Kuse....mono?" Aisuhina sighed, the pain ebbing off. She collapsed at his side, and soon everything went dark.
Aisuhina cried out in her sleep, landing a kick on the bark and causing her to fall off her perch, flailing around as she did so. She landed with a hard thump, the air blasted out of her lungs, and unable to call out for help.
Lying there in a pile of leaves, she waited for help to come. When it didn't, she tried to comfort herself with old memories of her brother, the only one who had comforted her while she had lived as an orphan. But the memories of their capture only bubbled up to the surface.
The boat rocked in the storm. It had been a long time, and Kusemono was becoming ill. Aisuhina comforted him, though her eyes shone with life no longer. Ever since they had been taken... Her light had gone out. She only spoke when she had to, and little even then. There was still hope, however. Kusemono sneezed, watching some of the other tigers roam restlessly around the metal box that they were inside. Other feline roars could be heard, were they leopard? Aisuhina gave them no thought, simply stared at the wall with hatred for the humans showing in her eyes.
"Where are they taking us?" Kusemono prompted weakly.
Aisuhina said nothing, simply continued to stare. He gave up, turning to face the ground. Finally the ship stopped, and the men came in with their darts. Aisuhina snarled, but she didn't have enough strength to drag herself to her feet. The other tigers, the male section, had already tried speaking with her in hopes of her liking them. Her beauty was surprising, even Kusemono couldn't help but stare at his sister sometimes. The men proceeded in, and took a squirming tigress away. Next they came towards Kusemono, and he flattened his ears. Aisuhina snarled and slashed at the human, fighting for the kill in order to save her brother. She was kicked strongly in the chest and stabbed with a more powerful dart, and she was quickly knocked out on the floor. The man loomed over her brother, and he could do nothing as they dragged him out.
Kusemono was gone when Aisuhina awoke. Still sailing on, the boat was stuck in a storm which had brought the felines to the islands. Kusemono? He was in another zoo. If he was still alive.
Aisuhina lay on her side, pain shooting up her back now as she began to realize what exactly had happened. Finally her body was catching up with her.
The white bengal tiger stared at the trees, her icy blue eyes cloudy with pain. Once, a brave (or just plain stupid) toucan fluttered by and landed on her shoulder. She tried to shrug him off, but it would not allow her to.
The toucan pecked at her fur before setting itself down. She let out an exasperated moan, though it was too quiet for the bird to hear.
